Nationall Recognised Training: Conduct Companion Animal Training Classes (RUV4512A)
Scope & Official Competency details: This unit of competency covers the process of conducting training classes for companion animals and their owners. It involves developing, conducting and reviewing training classes that include behavioural training in obedience, agility and socialisation. Training animals and their owners requires knowledge of different animals and breeds, different training equipment and its use as well as knowledge of different training methods. It also requires communicating with and directing animal owners during classes. Training will be conducted in group sessions with animals and owners and will generally take place in public open spaces. In addition to legal and ethical responsibilities, all units of competency in the Animal Care and Management Training Package have the requirement for animals to be handled gently and calmly. The individual is required to develop an empathetic understanding of animals in their care, so that stress and discomfort can be minimised. The work functions in the unit involve the identification and application of knowledge and skills to a wide variety of contacts with depth in some areas. One would be expected to identify, analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources, take responsibility for one’s own outputs and have limited responsibility for the quantity and quality of output of others. Elements include: Develop Class training plans Advertise the training classes Conduct training classes Instruct classes in ongoing training maintenance How the course will run: This 8 week intensive course will be delivered at premises in Burwood and for the very hands-on practical part all student trainers will meet at Burwood for their practical sessions which will take place on a Wed/Thu evening and/or Sunday morning.

Requirements: Access to a well socialised dog with a valid C5 immunisation and registration. Minimal computer skills and internet access and/or library access for internet usage for project work and research. Theory and practical training held at our offices in Burwood. Requirements: A well socialised dog is required for Day 2 enabling students to work in a practical environment. On the first day no dog requirement as theory and simulation exercises. Students need to dress appropriately to allow for Melbourne's weather as most of day 2 will be done outside. Luncheon & coffee breaks supplied, incl a comprehensive training manual. NB: Certificate of attendeance will be supplied.
